Government condemns attack on media at CUF parley

THE government has condemned the attack on journalists after a free-for-all brawl at an opposition Civic United Front (CUF) meeting in Dar es Salaam at the weekend, saying security organs should investigate the matter and undertake appropriate steps.

The incident left some journalistsnursing wounds, with their working toolsdamaged in the course of covering a meeting of in a hotel last Saturday – ostensibly by people believed to be members of the opposition party.
The Director of Information Services who doubles as the Government Spokesperson, Dr Hassan Abbasi, said in a statement in Dar es Salaam today that journalism was a noble profession that should be respected by all members of the public.
